This week, my newest passion is decorating cupcakes. Similar to my love for making cards as opposed to scrapbooking (although I've done a little and really appreciate the results, just not the journey) is my new love for cupcakes as opposed to cakes. However, after watching a youtube video the other day about crumb frosting, I'm more excited about the next cake I attempt. (Here's a blog about my last cake decorating http://thehierfamily.blogspot.com/2009/04/ace-of-cakes-will-not-be-calling-me.html.)
For Josh's 1st birthday (4/13/2008) my mom and I made some puppy cupcakes from an idea I found in a magazine. They were a lot of work, but turned out pretty cute.
I honestly never decorated another cupcake until last week. A couple of friends came over and we made more doggy cupcakes, this time for another friend's birthday. The cool cupcake book I got for Christmas helped.
Afterwards, I got really excited about the whole decorating thing. And so I plan on practicing more so I can make something really cute for Josh's 3rd birthday. {I can't believe my baby is going to be 3!} I made a batch the other day, just practicing some basics. They turned out pretty cute I thought. . .

We had thought we'd be going to NC in April (but couldn't find 3 tickets for less than $900) and I was going to have my friend make something special. Since we're not going, I found another local reference, but now that I have a little cupcake-decorating-confidence :) I think I'll see what I can pull out of my hat.
Plus, I have a few other occassions that I can practice with before then: St. Patty's day (maybe something with shamrocks or rainbows & pot 'o gold), our 8th wedding anniversary (thinking a surprise for Scott - boston cream cupcakes), and Easter (oh the many cute possibilities). As for Josh's birthday, I actually don't know yet. He's into so many things. Cars. Trains. Animals. Etc.
Now, let's see what I can accomplish between baby feedings and naps. :)
